How Much Does a Facelift Cost? Understanding the Factors Involved

If you’re considering a facelift, you might wonder about the cost and why prices vary so much between practices. Understanding the factors behind facelift pricing helps patients make confident, informed choices about their care. It also enables you to compare the investment in a facelift with the cost of nonsurgical treatments.

In this post, I’ll discuss the main factors that influence the cost of a facelift, what to expect during recovery, how this procedure compares to less invasive treatments, and the financing options available to help make your goals more achievable.

What Determines the Cost of a Facelift?

There’s no one-size-fits-all price tag for facelift surgery because I customize each procedure to the patient’s unique anatomy and goals. Several essential factors contribute to the total cost:

Your Surgeon’s Experience and Credentials

Perhaps the most critical factor in determining cost is the experience and reputation of your plastic surgeon. A board-certified plastic surgeon with decades of facial surgery experience typically charges more than less experienced practitioners. However, that added cost reflects a higher standard of safety, aesthetic skill, and long-term results.

Choosing a highly qualified surgeon helps minimize the chances of needing revision surgery and maximizes the likelihood of a natural-looking outcome that ages gracefully with you.

Surgical Facility Fees

Facelift surgery is typically performed in an accredited surgical center or outpatient facility. These centers charge a facility fee that covers the cost of using the operating room, equipment, and support staff. Accredited facilities prioritize patient safety and uphold rigorous standards, which are critical to your investment in quality care.

Anesthesia Fees

I perform traditional facelifts with the patient under a general anesthetic. An experienced, board-certified anesthesiologist administers and monitors your anesthesia throughout the procedure. Anesthesia fees vary based on the length of the surgery and the level of sedation required.

Complexity of the Procedure

Not all facelifts are the same. I developed a mini facelift technique called Rejuvelift™ for women and men who can get desired results with a less invasive procedure. I perform Rejuvelift procedures at our office using a local anesthetic with sedation, which is less costly than a traditional facelift. There is also less downtime, which means potentially less time off work. The Rejuvelift focuses on the lower third of the face, making it a good option to tighten sagging jowls and reduce excess skin on the neck. Combining other procedures, such as eyelid surgery, can also affect the total cost of a facelift.

Recovery and Aftercare Costs

Postoperative care is an important part of the facelift journey. While recovery costs are generally modest, they can include prescription medications and follow-up visits. It’s also wise to account for time off work or assistance at home during your initial healing period.

The Long-Term Value of a Facelift

While the upfront cost of a facelift can seem significant, many patients view it as a worthwhile investment in their self-confidence and well-being. Unlike nonsurgical treatments that require

repeated maintenance and deliver more modest results, a facelift offers dramatic and long-lasting rejuvenation, typically lasting 10 years or more.

When performed by a skilled plastic surgeon, a facelift can:

  • Smooth deep lines and wrinkles
  • Reduce sagging in the midface, jawline, and neck
  • Restore youthful contours and definition
  • Help you look like a refreshed, well-rested version of yourself

For many patients, these physical and emotional benefits far outweigh the cost of the procedure. Additionally, the longevity of results often makes facelift surgery more cost-effective over time compared to recurring nonsurgical treatments.

Facelift vs. Nonsurgical Alternatives

In recent years, injectables like BOTOX® and dermal fillers, as well as skin tightening treatments like Fractora™ or laser resurfacing, have become popular for addressing early signs of aging. While these options can provide temporary improvement, they are not a substitute for surgery in patients with moderate to advanced skin laxity.

Nonsurgical treatments may be appropriate for younger patients or those looking for subtle changes, but they often require ongoing maintenance every few months to a year. Over time, these costs

can add up, and still may not match the transformative results of a facelift.

If you’re unsure which path is right for you, Dr. Cutolo can help guide you and recommend a personalized approach during your consultation.
