Your Procedure

We use the Cynosure Alexandrite laser to remove hair quickly, safely, and effectively. During your session, the laser is passed over the targeted area. The device emits a concentrated beam of light that penetrates through your skin’s outer layers down to the hair follicles below. The light targets and is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in your hair follicles and leaves surrounding tissues unharmed. This heat energy disables the hair follicle, causing hair to stop growing. Since hair grows in cycles, and only actively growing follicles are affected, a series of treatments is required at 6 to 8-week intervals. The length of your session and number of treatments recommended varies, depending on your hair growth and cosmetic goals.

Recovery

Minimal to no downtime is needed after your session, and most patients can return to their regular routines after their treatments. However, for best results, we recommend that you do not tan your skin until after all your sessions have been completed.

Results and Benefits

Smooth, hair-free skin typically results after a series of laser hair removal treatments. An occasional “touch-up” treatment may be required for optimal hair reduction. Many patients say they love how much time they save without those endless rounds of tweezing, waxing, or shaving!

Laser Hair Removal FAQ

Will lasers remove 100% of my hair?

A complete series of treatments significantly reduces hair growth; however, it may not remove all of the hair. Patients may require maintenance treatments in the future.

Are the results permanent?

Results are long-lasting but may not be permanent. Hair that regrows is usually lighter and finer than it was originally.

Do I have to shave prior to my appointment?

We recommend shaving—NOT plucking, waxing, or using depilatories—the day before laser hair removal. The treatment works by heating the hair bulb in the follicle, so we don’t want you to remove it.

Does the treatment hurt?

Each pulse of the laser may sting like a rubber band snapping against the skin. We apply numbing cream before treatment to minimize any discomfort.

How long should I wait between treatments?

You will need to wait 4 to 6 weeks between treatments to allow untreated follicles to become active.

What happens if I only get one treatment and don’t follow through with the other rounds?

You probably won’t notice a significant difference if you have a single treatment. Hair grows in cycles, leaving many follicles untreated.
