During your consultation, Dr. Cutolo will discuss your surgical options. Because he places great importance on safety and quality, Dr. Cutolo performs this operation on an outpatient basis in a fully accredited hospital setting. To maintain your comfort during the procedure, the procedure is done under general anesthesia given by board certified anesthesiologists. In almost all cases, you will be able to go home after the procedure – not needing an overnight hospital stay.
The most common incision methods involve a "lollipop" pattern with an incision that circles the areola and then descends in a vertical line down the underside of the breast. In more extreme cases, an additional inframammary incision may be added to create an anchor shaped ("keyhole") pattern. After he makes the incision, Dr. Cutolo removes excess glandular tissue, fat, and skin. In some cases, he may recommend liposuction for additional contouring. He then repositions the nipple and, if needed, reduces the size of your areola. After he completes this process, he sutures the skin and applies bandages for improved comfort and healing.
